Freshwater Fish
FINS tip!
" Aquarium plants are great for our fish. They love swimming around and in-between them. Living plants also use up nitrates from the water and that's good because nitrates can hurt your fish. "
Bettas

Beautiful Bettas [Siamese fighting fish] come to us from Southeast Asia and Thailand. Their colors go from brilliant red to bright blue to emerald green ! They grow to be up to 3 inches and live up to 5 years.

When they are getting ready to fight, or breed, they spread their fins like the wings of a bird. They lift up their heads and open their gill covers. In a fight it can be to the death of the loser.

They have a special organ behind their head, folds of tissue, that work like a third gill. This lets them breathe in air from the surface. Because of this you can put your betta in a regular [at least 1 gallon] glass fish bowl. Just be sure and change ½ of the water each week. [The guys need to be by themselves, but the girls will get along with each other].

Bettas eat both live and flake foods. If they are going to have babies make sure, after the baby bettas are hatched, you take both the mom and dad bettas out and put them in another tank.
